Eileen J. Lammie VMD

Picture

Dr. Lammie grew up in Western Pennsylvania with a deep connection to animals, as she collected strays and wildlife, tamed dogs, and spent hours most days riding horses though the farms and orchards of Butler County. She attended Penn State University for three years and was accepted to Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in a special combined degree program for exceptional students. After graduation, Dr. Lammie followed her husband Sam to Arizona. She worked in a mixed practice in the mining, ranching franchise area of the high desert and mountain country, surrounding the town of Globe. While at this practice, she acquired skills in small animal medicine and surgery and equine field skills. She assisted the practice in qualification in AAHA certification. She was lucky to be part of the old west, sometimes traveling 50 miles on dirt roads to visit ranches near the Tonto Rim.

From there, Dr. Lammie and her husband returned to Western Pennsylvania where she founded Pine Haven Veterinary Clinic in Kane, Pennsylvania.  This practice provided veterinary care to a community in the Allegheny National Forest that had no veterinarian in the past 20 years. This full service mixed practice was instrumental in Lyme disease awareness in Western PA and worked with the PA game department in raccoon rabies surveillance. She was also a board member at the local animal shelter. With difficult goodbyes, Dr. Lammie sold this practice and moved to International Falls, Minnesota where she managed a field call/house call practice and devoted a great deal of time to raising her two young children, Samantha and Daniel. While working at a more relaxed pace, Dr. Lammie gave her time to community programs including elementary school and library reading programs, GFWC, community concert committee, ice skating and youth hockey programs, science curriculum review for the school system, wildlife rehabilitation and a member of Minnesota state committee to write rehabilitation guidelines and testing material for new rehabilitation workers.

In 2000, again Dr. Lammie waved goodbye to good friends and clients and moved to West Virginia to accompany her husband Sam with his forest service job and to be closer to her aging and ailing parents. In her first years in Elkins, Dr. Lammie worked as an associate veterinarian to have enough time for her children’s school and sports activities while still keeping her veterinary skills and knowledge active. During this time, she volunteered for the Third Ward Elementary School library, and gave many science education programs and hosted foreign exchange students.

In 2007, Dr. Lammie founded All Creatures Great and Small Veterinary Clinic where she could actively use her community skills and knowledge of the veterinary field to develop a full service, client oriented facility with state of the art diagnostic and treatment equipment to deliver kind, compassionate and complete animal care with a focus for client education and support through the many aspects of life our four footed friends give us.  Here, Dr. Lammie is able to fully utilize her special training in rehabilitation medicine, ultrasound, stem cell therapy, acupuncture, resuscitation and behavior methods to facilitate gentle animal handling in the veterinary clinic.

While not working, Dr. Lammie enjoys her two dogs Griffon and Kelpie, her cat Arlo, organic gardening, cooking, old movies, folk music, cross country skiing, hiking in wildlife areas, yoga, and visiting her mother (still living independently at 94) and two children—Daniel in school at University of Pittsburgh and Samantha in medical school at Emery University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her two favorite public figures are James Herriot and Pete Seeger.
